Former U of M Coach Strengthens Football Program
The Huskies football program made a significant addition this year. They added Coach Luke Tressel with hopes to improve an already strong coaching staff. After having valuable experience as a coach for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers for six years, he has now found his way to St. Anthony.
For the University of Minnesota football team, Tressel was on staff in many different capacities. For his first two years, he was the graduate assistant on offense. The third year, he became a full-time staff member and worked with the team as a strength and conditioning coach. Since the then head coach Glen Mason identified his work with the team as being a positive influence for the players, Tressel was then promoted to the wide receivers coach. Tressel definitely had some great experiences with the Gophers. He explained his job as being "fun" while he helped out the maroon and gold. However, there were some disadvantages to his previous job. During the season he worked 80 hours per week and that gave him less time to be with his family. The pressure was very high because there was minimal security for his job since it was such a high profile position.
Tressel has grown up with football his entire life, and he has had a terrific family tree to support his football credibility. His father, Dick, is the current running back coach at Ohio State University. Before that, his dad happened to coach Tressel at Hamline University for four years. Luke's uncle, Jim, is currently the head coach of Ohio State University. His ties to the Big Ten Conference do not end there, Tressel's brother Mike is currently the linebacker and special teams coach at Michigan State University.
Coach Tressel has now made his way to St. Anthony where he teaches physical education and is the wide receiver and defensive backs coach on the varsity squad. Our football program is continuing to move forward by using Tressel's knowledge and expertise of the game. The Huskies fans, coaches, and players are fortunate to have him as part of our staff, and hopefully we will have him for years to come.
