St. Anthony-New Brighton Schools (SANB) is beginning the process of selecting the district’s next permanent superintendent, who is expected to begin serving the district on July 1, 2027.

For the 2026–27 school year, Dr. Steve Massey is serving as Interim Superintendent, providing experienced leadership and continuity while the School Board conducts a thoughtful, comprehensive search for the district’s next permanent leader.

The School Board is responsible for selecting and hiring the superintendent and has established a process designed to allow time for careful planning, community engagement, candidate recruitment and a thorough selection process.

This page will serve as the central source for information and updates throughout the superintendent search. New information, opportunities for community participation and key decisions will be added as the process moves forward.

Where We Are in the Process

The School Board has approved the initial timeline for the superintendent search and a Request for Proposals (RFP) to identify an experienced search firm to support the Board throughout the process.
The selected search firm will assist with community engagement, development of a leadership profile, candidate recruitment and screening, interviews, due diligence and the final selection process.

Upcoming Milestones:

  • August 21, 2026: Superintendent Search RFP issued
  • September 17, 2026: Proposals due
  • September 22, 2026: School Board reviews proposals and identifies firms to invite to present
  • October 6, 2026: Search firms present to the School Board
  • October 20, 2026: School Board plans to select a search firm
  • November 10, 2026: Board planning session with the selected search firm to establish the detailed search process and timeline
  • By November 27, 2026: Target for posting the superintendent position

Community Engagement

Community voice will be an important part of the superintendent search.

SANB is already engaging students, staff, families and community members through the School Board’s broader community engagement work. The district will provide findings from those conversations to the selected search firm, which will help the Board determine what additional search-specific engagement is needed to develop the leadership profile and inform the selection process.

A community engagement session is currently planned for Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Additional opportunities to participate in the superintendent search will be shared as the process is developed.

August 2026

The School Board approved the pre-search timeline and authorized the district to move forward with a Request for Proposals for superintendent search services.
