Planning for learning and support of students following the Chauvin trial verdict

St. Anthony-New Brighton families,

We learned the jury in the Derek Chauvin trial will announce its verdict today, April 20, between 3:30-4 p.m.

We have prepared staff for how they can best support students this week after the verdict is announced.

We believe our schools are a safe place and we plan to hold school.
But, if we receive information indicating that our students’ physical safety will be compromised as they travel to/from school, we will not hold in-person learning and will transition all students (K-12) into distance learning. Wednesdays are scheduled distance learning days for grades 6-12; while at Wilshire Park, Wednesdays are scheduled as in-person learning days.

For today, Tuesday, April 20, 2021:

  • Community Services programs that begin after 5:30 p.m. today will be cancelled.
  • All-Day Preschool and Village Kids at Wilshire Park will continue today as scheduled.
  • Athletics and activities games/matches that were scheduled today at 4 p.m. or later, have been canceled; practices have been shortened. Please contact your child’s coach/advisor with any questions.

Please note: We trust parents/guardians know what’s best for their child and may choose to keep them home. Please contact your child’s school to inform them of your child’s absence.

Staff are preparing to facilitate discussions for students who may have questions. We will also provide physical spaces this week (socially distanced, wearing masks) for students to gather and process their thoughts and feelings.

We will notify families of any potential changes. Please reach out with any questions and/or concerns.
