Becca Nelson named Athena Award Winner

St. Anthony Village High School is excited to announce Becca Nelson as this year’s Athena Award winner. The Athena Award recognizes senior female students for their outstanding athletic achievement. Becca has had an incredible high school athletic career, highlighted by qualifying for the state track meet multiple times and being a key contributor to the basketball team.

This basketball season, Becca is playing 32 minutes per game for the Huskies, averaging 15.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting over 50% from the field. She is a four-time letter winner and is serving as a captain this season. Becca was recently awarded All-Conference honors for her season performance. 

On the track, Becca has qualified for the state meet each season. She anchors the 4x400m and 4x200m relays, which have qualified for state in each of the past three seasons. Last spring, she also qualified for state in the 400m race. Becca holds the third-best time in school history for the 400m dash, the fifth-best time in the 200m dash, and is a part of the school record 4x400m relay. She is a three-time letter winner, two-time captain, three-time All-Conference honoree, and two-time All-State Academic award winner.

In addition to basketball and track, Becca was also part of the first girls cross country conference championship in school history, while also participating in the state cross country meet her sophomore year.

Becca is described by her coaches as incredibly hard-working, a formidable opponent, and an awesome teammate.

Next year, Becca will be heading to Bethel University where she will continue her basketball career.
