COVID-19 vaccine available soon for 12- to 15-year olds

SAMS and SAVHS families,

We have received notice from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine is expected to be authorized for 12- to 15-year-olds as early as this week. We want to prepare families for the following next steps.

Learn more about the Pfizer vaccine:

• The MDH’s About COVID-19 Vaccine web page includes information on the vaccine and what to expect before, during and after vaccination.
• The What You Should Know About COVID-19 Vaccines document provides answers to many questions families may have.

Get ready to make an appointment: 
The following provides information on how to get an appointment once the Pfizer vaccine is available to 12- to 15-year-olds.

• Vaccines.gov to find a local vaccine. 
  • Under “vaccine” make sure to check the box for Pfizer.
• Schedule an appointment through Minnesota’s Community Vaccination Program. 
  • If all appointments are booked, parents/guardians can sign their child up for the Vaccine Connector which will tell you once appointments become available.
• We encourage you to reach out to your child’s health care provider to inquire about how to make an appointment for vaccination.
