- As we enter the winter season, it is important for St. Anthony-New Brighton (SANB) families to stay informed.
- SANB monitors weather and road conditions through a variety of sources. The decision to close our schools is taken very seriously. The safety of all students and staff is a first priority when determining if the district should stay open in extreme winter weather.
- We either decide to close or stay open— it’s not an option to delay the start of the school day. This is due to transportation needs across the district. Although, there are times where an early release could be a possibility.
- SANB follows the National Weather Service temperature and wind-chill predictions for our community. We continually monitor this forecast throughout the winter season.
- Make sure your child has weather appropriate clothing:
- To prepare for winter’s cold and snowy days, please ensure your child has appropriate cold-weather clothing. Preschool and elementary students need to wear a jacket, boots, snow pants, hat/face mask, and gloves — every day.
What if I am concerned about the weather and the district stays open?
- The decision to hold or cancel school may differ from neighboring districts due to specific forecasting information and road conditions.
- Parents/guardians are encouraged to use their own judgment if they are concerned about their child attending school during extreme winter weather. Please contact your child’s school directly if you have any questions, or to report an absence.
