Lynne Penke Valdes, board member, is stepping down from her position and her last day will be Aug. 15, 2022. Valdes’ resignation creates a vacancy on the SANB School Board.

The SANB School Board has initiated an application process for the open seat and invites anyone, with or without prior school board experience, to apply.

The application is a six question document that inquires about an applicant’s commitment to enhancing students' learning experiences, improving educational equity and supporting the overall goals of the SANB School Board.

The application will remain open until Aug. 15, 2022. The board will review applications and discuss the appointment process at the Board meeting on August 23, 2022.

Timeline of Appointment Process

July 11, 2022: Announcement regarding open seat on the St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board
The application process is outlined on our district website.

July 11-August 15, 2022: Applications accepted for open seat
Community members who live in the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District can apply for the open seat. Experience on a School Board is not required and previous School Board members may apply.

August 16-22, 2022: Application Review
St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board members will review applications using the rubric in this screening tool.

August 23, 2022: St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board Meeting
School Board members make a motion to discuss the top applicants, based on the rubric, during the meeting.
Following discussion, a board resolution will be approved to appoint a candidate to the open seat.

September 23, 2022: Candidate Appointed to School Board
The appointed school board member will begin their service on or after September 23, 2022.

Candidates can submit an application by August 15, 2022.

2. Obtain a paper copy of the application at the St. Anthony Community Services office, 3301 Silver Lake Road, St. Anthony between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

What You Need to Know About Serving on a School Board

School IQ will host an information session about the roles and responsibilities of a school board member. The event is for school board candidates and will be offered in person on July 27 and virtually on July 28. Presenters include former School Board Members Amy Jones and Paula O’Loughlin, and former Superintendents John Schultz and Denise Pontrelli.
